Who Shot J.R.?

Fans of the original Dallas series will never forget that line and TV historians will never forget what that scene did for television. It’s been said that the final scene of the season in 1980, where Larry Hagman’s character J.R. Ewing was shot by an unknown assailant, is one of the most unforgettable cliffhangers in prime time dramatic television. Dallas is also commonly credited with helping to popularize the trend in the US to end a television season with a cliffhanger.

With the first season of the Dallas TNT reboot coming to a close in tonight’s season finale, we’re left wondering, what will tonight’s cliffhanger be? Bobby Ewing’s health has been declining, will he make it? Will John Ross and Christopher – the next generation Ewings – remain friendly as they embark on the transition from oil to alternative energy? Did Christopher’s wife survive the gunshot that rang out at the end of the last episode, or did her “brother”? Will the Venezuelans get their oil, or will they try to take Southfork Ranch from the Ewings? And, seeing as J.R. hasn’t made any new friends since 1980 – but seems to be racking up the enemies – is there a possibility we’ll be asking the age-old question again? Set your TiVo so you don’t miss a minute of the drama!
