Performances dominated a very emotive Grammy Awards ceremony last night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. From President Obama encouraging musical artists to use their influence to speak out against rape and domestic violence, to Pharrell and Prince’s acknowledging the #BlackLivesMatter movement, the typically buoyant ceremony had some very serious undertones. But in the end, musical performance prevailed, as evidenced by TiVo’s Top Five Moments for the 57th Annual Grammy Awards:
- 8:49pm – Madonna’s performance of “Living for Love” ranks as TiVo’s Top Moment of the 2015 Grammy Awards.
- 8:38pm – Sam Smith wins Best Pop Vocal Album for In the Lonely Hour — one of his four Grammy Awards last night.
- 9:36pm – Pharrell, backed by classical pianist Lang Lang and film composer Hans Zimmer, performs a stylized version of his hit “Happy”.
- 9:48pm – After a speech from President Obama and a dramatic written-word piece by domestic violence survivor Brooke Axtell, Katy Perry performs “By the Grace of God”.
- 10:24pm – Sir Paul McCartney assumes the role of lead guitarist and backup vocalist, as Rihanna and Kanye West perform a rousing version of “FourFiveSeconds”.
