As Letterman packs up his belongings and CBS begins renovation plans on the studio, Stephen Colbert bid adieu to nine years at Comedy Central as host of The Colbert Report. Joining in on the celebration was his usual raucous audience, as well as a host of singing celebrities.

Utilizing our live + same day second-by-second viewing data, TiVo Research & Analytics determined the Top Five Moments from the Colbert Report’s final episode that resonated most with our subscribers. Here is that list:

 

  1. 11:31 pm – Jon Stewart introduces Colbert for his final broadcast and attempts to engender some emotional response from him for this special show. Colbert responds, “I like to think every show is special, Jon. It’s a little thing called professionalism.”
  2. 11:49 pm – with Randy Newman on the piano, Colbert and Jon Stewart begin a rendition of “We’ll Meet Again” and are joined by an eclectic group (many of whom Colbert previously had interviewed on the show), including Ken Burns, Willie Nelson, President Bill Clinton, troops in Afghanistan, Bryan Cranston, Ric Ocasek, an astronaut on the International Space Station, Smaug, Mandy Patinkin, Cyndi Lauper, Alan Alda, Big Bird, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Eliot Spitzer and Henry Kissinger.
  3. 11:32 pm – Colbert begins with a story about a photo of a Texas plumbing company’s truck that somehow has ended up in Syria and been transformed into an anti-aircraft firing weapon. Colbert says, “Pickup truck, desert, giant machine gun — that could still be Texas.”
  4. 11:43 pm – Colbert inadvertently shoots and kills his colleague and lifelong friend, Grimmy. Colbert exclaims, “I just killed death; I am immortal!”
  5. 11:55 pm – Santa, Abe Lincoln (with his unicorn horn) and Alex Trebek join Colbert to help him discover what’s next.
