After spending years searching the Pacific for the location of the great white shark’s “nest” – one of the greatest mysteries of science, Dr. Michael Domeier successfully tagged a pregnant female shark in 2013, setting the process forward. In Spawn of Jaws 2: The Birth, we follow the journey and are witness to the birth of a baby great white shark. Check out top moments from the program below:
- 10:20pm – Dr. Michael Domeier pays heartfelt tribute to his friend and collaborator on this project, Paul Walker. The actor, who had studied marine biology in college and was committed to marine conservation, died tragically in an automobile accident at the time he and Dr. Domeier were working together on this project.
- 10:25pm – Multiple examples of sharks inhabiting the Santa Monica Bay shoreline are revealed.
- 10:49pm – With the tag emitting a reduced signal, Dr. Domeier takes to the skies in an effort to locate the pregnant great white shark, named Gil Rakers, and the pupping grounds.
- 10:39pm –Dr. Domeier heads to Mexico, where he has reason to believe Gil Rakers is located and where fishermen are reported to be killing adult, female sharks.
- 10:59pm – The tag begins emitting a signal again, and Dr. Domeier discover Gil Rakers is leaving the northern region of the Sea of Cortez, where she has given birth. Dr. Domeier discovers the great white shark nursery that he and Paul Walker have been seeking for the past two years.
