Top Moments: Alien Sharks: Return to the Abyss!

On Tuesday night’s program, Alien Sharks: Return to the Abyss, researcher Paul Clerkin investigates the Indian Ocean in search of species scientists could never imagine. He ventures into the depths and wrath of the oceans darkest waters to get a glimpse of the last known to exist species of bioluminescent sharks in the world. Check out TiVo’s Top Moments from last night’s program:

  1. 9:26pm – Focusing on the bioluminescent one-ton megamouth shark, the program shows video of other rare and bioluminescent fish that prowl the depths of the ocean.
  2. 9:58pm – Paul Clerkin, a fourth-year graduate student at San Jose University studying marine science at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, races to save fourteen rare and endangered gulper sharks by getting them back in the water after they were caught in fishermen’s nets. One shark is equipped with a tag that will track its movements and depth for two weeks.
  3. 9:49pm – Paul uses “squid CPR” to resuscitate a flying squid that was captured in a net.
  4. 9:13pm – Pulling a net up from one of the deepest parts of the southern Indian Ocean, Paul and his crew discover a new species of ghost shark on which no human ever before has laid eyes.
  5. 9:39pm – After a long battle to subdue a shark and avoid being cut by its razor-sharp rostrum, a transmitter is attached to the sawfish in the Florida Keys.
