Everyone has a favorite holiday movie. Whether you love watching “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” as you decorate your tree each Christmas or enjoy sitting down with your family to watch “The Ten Commandments” every Easter, there are some movies that are just forever associated with a holiday in our minds. So it should come as no surprise that we have a favorite 4th of July movie: “Jaws”.
Long seen as the first summer blockbuster, Steven Spielberg’s “Jaws” is the Quint-essential (see what we did there?) 4th of July movie. Long before Will Smith and Bill Pullman were fighting aliens to reclaim our Independence Day, Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw were trying to reclaim the waters off Amity Island. From the tension of the now infamous John Williams soundtrack to the bone-chilling monologue where Quint describes what it was like on the U.S.S. Indianapolis, “Jaws” is a roller coaster ride from beginning to end. Not to mention it’s provided us with some of the greatest quotes in movie history. (“You’re gonna need a bigger boat”, “Here’s to swimmin’ with bow-legged women”, and of course “Smile you son of a…”, to name a few)
So why not start a new tradition this 4th of July and celebrate with Chief Brody and the rest of the residents of Amity Island?
