TiVo’s 15th Blue Moon Anniversary – Celebrating the Extraordinary
What is a Blue Moon Anniversary you ask? At TiVo, it is the celebration of a new age in the television experience!
It all started at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 1999 where TiVo changed the world of home entertainment forever when we unveiled the first working prototype of the TiVo set-top box. After the show, co-founder Mike Ramsay challenged the company to ship the first DVR by March 31, 1999 – shrinking the original five-month development schedule to a little over two months! The company accepted the challenge, skipping breaks and spending the night at the office all in an effort to meet the deadline.
As the deadline approached one of the employees pointed out that the month of March included a “Blue Moon” – that rare event when two full moons appear in one month – and the company decided that they too could do the unexpected! The first TiVo box rolled off the assembly line the last week of March – and that is why TiVo celebrates the Blue Moon Anniversary.
