TiVo Olympic Coverage – Top Moments – February 9, 2014

The top five most-watched moments from NBC’s Sunday night coverage of the 22nd Winter Olympics in Sochi featured five of the world’s top female athletes, including three Americans.  The most-watched moments include two thrill-of-victory ice skating wins, and three agony-of-defeat fumbled snowboarding routines.

Top Moments #1 and #2 were claimed by competitors from Great Britain and Russia.  Great Britain’s Aimee Fuller took the #1 spot last night while performing in the Women’s Slopestyle Snowboarding Semi-Finals at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park: Fuller fell while attempting to land a double back flip. Then, at the Iceberg Skating Palace, Russia’s young figure skating dynamo, Yulia Lipnitskaya, spun her way into the #2 position last night – literally – as she ended her routine with her signature move, holding one leg over her head while twirling rapidly.  The Russian crowd responded enthusiastically to Lipnitskaya’s exhilarating routine, which earned her a score of 141.51.  The Russian team went on to claim the Gold medal in the Team Figure Skating competition.

The remaining three Top Moments went to Americans. Ty Walker, who was nursing a bruised heel, fell while attempting to land her backside 720 in the Women’s Snowboarding Slopestyle semi-finals and did not advance to the finals. An effervescent Gracie Gold executed a graceful and flawless free skate in the Team Skating Competition; Top Moment #4 found Gracie smiling up as her score of 129.38 flashed on the screen.  In fifth place was American snowboarder Jessika Jenson, who fell while attempting to land a frontside 360 in the Women’s Snowboarding Slopestyle competition. Jenson, like Walker did not advance to the finals.
