Swimming once again provided dramatic highlights on Day 5 of the Olympic Games. USA’s Nathan Adrian took the top spot on the podium and the top spot for the most-watched moment of Wednesday’s primetime coverage. Adrian won the men’s 100m freestyle by a fingertip – a mere hundredth of a second was the margin of victory over Australian James Magnussen. Daniel Gyuta of Hungary set a new world record in the 200m breaststroke, finishing ahead of the host country’s Michael Jamieson.
Men’s gymnastics took center stage with a disappointing performance by John Orozco on the pommel horse. NBC’s commentator compared his mistake-ridden routine to that of a beginning gymnast. John accidentally scraped his thigh on the pommel horse several times and snagged his pants under his grip right before dismount.
