TiVo held its first annual summer veterans luncheon at corporate headquarters in Alviso, CA yesterday to honor the contributions of their 10 TiVets; U.S. Military veterans who are completing TiVo’s first TiVo Summer Veterans Intern Program. The unique program gives recent vets a transition from military to corporate life.
The TiVo Summer Veterans Program was created by a group of veteran TiVo employees in collaboration with Tom Wolzien, Lead Director on the TiVo Board of Directors and a Vietnam War veteran himself. The TiVo veterans developed the program to bridge the career gap between active military duty and civilian employment.
The intensive three month internships are paid and give veterans the chance to demonstrate their valuable managerial and operational skills learned in the military at TiVo and gain a solid civilian employment experience to add to their resume. These skills are important to private sector employers, but can be difficult to explain as veterans seek civilian employment. This program allows veterans to demonstrate that their skill set is unique and useful, and get the chance to gain a valuable “first civilian job” entry for their resumes and job history with a major corporate employer.
TiVo values the services and sacrifice of their veterans, and we are fortunate to have such hardworking individuals contributing at company headquarters every day. The program may be designed to help translate the skills veterans have acquired through their military service into a corporate role, but ultimately, we benefit greatly from their contributions. It is an honor to have had offered this program and we look forward to a continued effort to serve the brave men and women who have served us.
