ABC Entertainment Chief on Grey’s Anatomy, Cougar Town, General Hospital and Why He Likes Work It

Well, at least he’s got a sense of humor. At a Television Critics Association press event, ABC entertainment group president Paul Lee opened with a sporting “So, what did you think of Work It?” Because let’s face it, even with the horrible, some might say horrifying, disappointment that is Work It, ABC is doing just fine. Between hits like Suburgatory, Once Upon A Time, and the beloved Modern Family, Lee can afford to be lighthearted about airing what he calls “a very, very silly” show, and what we and the rest of the Internet might call “the worst show ever.”

But let’s move on! Lee covered a lot of ground in his press tour, (by which we mean, he made a lot of vague statements) and we have to get to the highlights. First up, Cougar Town! While Lee gave no strong indication that the show will have a long life, fans can breathe easy knowing Cox and Co. will back on the air in March. Have you been going through withdrawal? Or are you too tired after channeling all your energy into #OccupyGreendale?

As for Grey’s Anatomy, Lee didn’t say much. But the aging show, still number two on TiVo’s Most Recorded list, may not be on life support just yet. According to Patrick Dempsey, who says he’ll return to the show if it doesn’t interfere with his racing schedule, they are “talking about the future.”

In other news, Lee has no idea if General Hospital is sticking around or not, but he is absolutely sure Dancing with the Stars will be, for “many, many years.” Lee is a huge fan of the show, as are TiVo users, who rank it as number 21 on TiVo’s Most Recorded list.

Ok, so Lee may not have given us so much insight into the inner workings of ABC Entertainment, but I think we can all breathe easy knowing he knows we hate Work It. What do you think of the current ABC lineup? Are you sick of Greys? Are you psyched for the next Dancing with the Stars? And is it bad that we weren’t entirely sure General Hospital was still on the air?
