Top Football Movies as Voted for by the TiVo Fans

We asked and you told. Now that Baseball season has come to a close, we are full throttle into the football season. After polling TiVo fans for their favorite football movies we found the following to be most popular among the TiVo fans…

Rudy: Rudy won this poll with flying colors so check it out now from Netflix. In this drama about the triumph of the human spirit, scrawny high schooler Rudy Ruettiger dreams of playing football at Notre Dame. But his father can’t afford to send him, so he ends up at a college across the street instead. Undaunted, Rudy eventually transfers to Notre Dame, where he takes on duties assisting the groundskeeper and joins the school’s practice squad.

Brian’s Song: First runner up is the tear jerker Brian’s Song.  This Emmy-winning movie focuses on Chicago Bears running back Gale Sayers and his friendship with fullback Brian Piccolo. Coach George Halas encourages Piccolo to be Sayers’s roommate during the season — the first white-black pairing of its kind in professional sports. When Piccolo develops cancer, Sayers stands by his pal.

Remember the Titans: The year is 1971, and the people of Alexandria, Va., are none too pleased when AfricanAmerican Herman Boone (Denzel Washington) is given the nod to head a newly integrated football team. As the season progresses, however, their contentious attitudes begin to change. Will Patton, Kip Pardue, Donald Faison, Kate Bosworth, Ryan Gosling, Earl Poitier and Hayden Panettiere co-star in this moving, fact-based drama.

The Replacements: Maverick old-guard coach Gene Hackman is hired in the wake of a players’ strike to help the Washington Sentinels advance to the playoffs. But that impossible dream hinges on whether his replacements can hunker down and do the job. So, Hackman dusts off his secret dossier of ex-players who never got a chance (or screwed up the one they were given) and knits together a bad-dream team of guys who just may give the Sentinels their title shot.
